Under the auspices of the Planning Commission,
the Planning Department in conjunction with Metro is preparing
to launch a corridor planning process with an early role for
citizen involvement. The underlying premise is that the city
of Houston is responsible for the corridor plan of which transit
is one component.
At the time of printing, the process is in early stages of
development by the Planning Department. The following parameters
are under consideration:
~Citizens would be engaged early in the visioning
process and consulted during several rounds of discussion.
~ The process would need to be timed to parallel the
Metro planning design and environmental impact statement
process currently underway
- The plan would be developed in coordination with
Planning Commission committees responsible for recommendations
for changes to design standards and development ordinances
needed to encourage implementation of the plan
- The plan would be ultimately adopted by the Planning
Commission and recommendations for ordinance changes
would be forwarded to City Council.
