Goal and Action 24: Neighborhoods and Regulations

Houston protects and strengthens its neighborhoods through sensible application of newly created zoning laws. (3.5)

Actions Proposed by Participants

• Establish and enforce zoning laws based on sound planning and neighborhood aspirations.
• Develop regulations and incentives that favor the development of mixed-use neighborhoods.
• Support the integration of uses such as parks, shops, places of employment and police services into each neighborhood to reduce dependency on automobiles.
• Impose impact fees to reduce traffic, noise, light and impervious surfaces in inappropriate locations.
• Invest four times the current level in the Super Neighborhoods programs.
