Dear Friend,

By now, I hope you have heard about Blueprint Houston, a citywide, citizen initiative. We’ve held a series of public meetings to gather the values and goals Houstonians share. Perhaps you have even been part of one of these meetings or answered a telephone survey—both efforts have been successful! In a historic undertaking, Houstonians from all walks of life have generated priorities for our city as it approaches its 200th birthday. Neighbors shared views on such important issues as mobility and transportation, air quality, flooding, neighborhood quality, educational quality, health, public safety, and community services.

Now has come the time to gather together to lay out a strong vision and send a strong message about Houston’s future. On Saturday, May 31, 2003 from 8 am until 3 pm, more than 1,000 citizens will gather at the George R. Brown Convention Center for, a Citizens’ Congress, co-sponsored by the City of Houston. The powerful purpose of the Citizens’ Congress is to assemble Houstonians from all areas and backgrounds, asking these interested citizens to review the ideas gathered thus far, and vote on and assemble the views and visions of our city’s future. We invite you to be part of the Congress on the 31st because we want your voice be heard.

As a leader in the community, the Citizens’ Congress needs your help. We seek financial underwriting from businesses and organizations throughout Houston. Our immediate need is to fund the $80,000 cost for staging this event, an event that will be an exciting, high-tech production. Lead by internationally-renowned planning facilitator, Gianni Longo, the Congress will feature 100 groups of citizens, each group facilitated by trained volunteers and utilizing electronic voting keypads that will allow immediate results to be projected on a series of large screens throughout the meeting hall.

The attached pages describe four levels of financial support we are seeking and any number of in-kind services that we need—printing, transportation, computers, concessions, and office supplies. Please consider the best way you can help. Sponsorship will provide excellent visibility and goodwill for your company, among more than 1,500 of Houston’s most active citizenry, echoing the demographics of the fourth largest metropolitan population in the nation. Additionally, we expect ample live and leading media coverage.

Please consider the value you will receive from your participation in making a lasting, long-term contribution to the well-being of Houston’s future. Give voice to our hopes for ourselves, our children and the city we love. Thank you for your consideration. For additional sponsorship information, please contact Lauri Nelson (713/869.1598). We sincerely appreciate whatever financial contribution you can make. Please encourage everyone you know to register for this special day via our website, www.blueprinthouston.org.

Sincerely,

Claudia Williamson
